Eagles lose season opener

LUVERNE?- The New Ulm football team opened its season with a 28-6 loss to Luverne in “zero week” of the Minnesota high school football season on Friday.

Jackson Yackley led the rushing attack, netting 42 yards off 10 carries for one touchdown. Ryan DeWanz also had 24 yards off nine carries.

Defensively, three Eagles – Yackley, DeWanz and Matt Rowley – notched interceptions. DeWanz also registered a sack as well.

Yackley also had a total of 113 yards from punt and kickoff returns.

The Eagles had just 44 yards passing in the loss.

The Eagles return home to host Belle Plaine on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m.
