Sleepy Eye man killed in farm accident
SLEEPY EYE – A Sleepy Eye man died Thursday from burns he received in a farm accident in Prairieville Township, rural Sleepy Eye.
According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, it received a 9-1-1 call around 4 p.m. Thursday to the residence of Donald George Richert, 77, of rural Sleepy Eye.
They found Richert had been working with a skidloader near a burn pit on the farm. Richert had apparently gotten off the skidloader to move something into the pit, when the skidloader moved forward, pinning his left leg and trapping Richert in the burn pit, where he received extensive burns to the majority of his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office, Sleepy Eye Ambulance Service, MN State Patrol and Sleepy Eye Police responded to the scene. The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted at the scene by two Clements volunteer firefighters who had been working in the area and had discovered the incident, and the Sturm Funeral Home of Springfield.
