Mary Louise Grausam was born Oct. 31, 1930 in Blue Earth County to Oscar and Virginia (Palmer) Griebel. She attended Mankato State University where she received her Lifetime Teacher Degree. Mary taught in Comfrey until her marriage to Gerald Grausam on Aug. 26, 1952 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Searles. She joined Gerald in farming and raising her family until her return to teaching where she taught at St. Joseph’s in Clements, then St. Raphael’s in Springfield. “Mrs. Grausam” taught 4th grade for 26 years and loved all of her students as they loved her. Many of her former students continued to visit her many years after receiving their education even after her retirement. Mary then rejoined Gerald in the farming operations until their full retirement and moving into Springfield. She was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, CCW, and received the Bishop’s Medal in appreciation for all of her years of teaching. Mary enjoyed spending time with her friends in Springfield and New Ulm. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren who brought her great joy. Mary felt blessed to welcome seven great-grandchildren these past years.
She is survived by children, Ginny and husband Gary Norsten of Willmar, Pattie and husband Steve Engel of Apple Valley, and Jack and wife Nancy Grausam of New Ulm; grandchildren, Kristen (Luke) Cruze and their children Wyatt and Easton, Justin (Emily) Engel and their children Noelle and Juliette, Jaime (Christopher) Canales and their children Micah and Ofelia, Dustin Grausam and fiance Ashley Klosowski, and Amber (Jeremy) Walters and their daughter Rylynn; and siblings, Charles (Doris) Griebel, Bill Griebel, Bob (Electa) Griebel, Myrtle (Don) Brand, and Julian (Janice) Griebel, all of New Ulm.
