MLC volleyball gets swept at Bethel tournament
ST. PAUL – The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost both matches Saturday at Bethel, losing 3-0 to both Concordia and Luther.
Concordia 3, MLC 0
Concordia took the first match by the scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-21.
The Knights were unable to slow down Concordia’s attack, allowing an attack percentage of .306 for the match.
MLC hit .177 for the match, with Heather Danell and Rebecca Engelbrecht tying for the team lead with nine kills apiece. Leah Nass added eight kills and two blocks, while Miranda Maasz led the team with 30 assists. Alex Anthon was the top back row player with 14 digs.
Luther 3, MLC 0
Luther held on in a close three-set match by the scores of 25-20, 26-24, 25-21.
Luther won the first set going away, but need to hold on as the Knights played it point for point in the final two sets in defeat.
Engelbrecht once again led MLC with 16 kills, while Anthon had 14 digs again. Maasz had 30 assists to once again lead the team. Engelbrecht also recorded her 1,000th career kill on the day.
The Knights dropped to 3-5 on the season with the two losses. They’ll return to action on Friday when they start the two-day tournament at UW-Oshkosh.
