PREP VOLLEYBALL: Wabasso sweeps Springfield

WABASSO – Wabasso swept Springfield 25-16, 25-13, 25-17 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match on Thursday.

Chelsey Guetter led the Rabbits with 17 kills and 10 digs, while Mindy Goblirsch added 12 digs.

For Springfield, Jenny Thoreson had 25 set assists. Taylor Milbrath had six kills and Heidi Veenstra had eight kills. Mariah Hoyt had eight digs and Amanda Rogotzke had 10 digs.

Wabasso (9-2, 3-1) plays on Tuesday at Sleepy Eye, while Springfield (3-3, 2-2) will participate in the Sibley East Invitational.


HECTOR – Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 Thursday night in Tomahawk Conference volleyball action.

Bethany Berkner had 31 set assists, Nikki Carr had 14 serves with one ace and Becca Schmitz had 13 kills and two blocks for the Knights.

Hannah VanderVoort led the Mustangs with eight digs, six kills and four ace serves. Carley Klabunde added six kills and Becca Ebbers had five kills. Ashley Tintes had 10 set assists and Ashley Peterson had 13 set assists.

BLHS (6-4, 3-0) travels to New Ulm Cathedral (8-3, 1-2) next Tuesday night while St. Mary’s (6-6, 1-3) hosts Springfield (3-3, 2-2) Tuesday night.

Madelia 3, Aden-Conger 0

MADELIA – Melody Colon scored eight consecutive points, four of them were aces, to lead Madelia past Alden Conger 25-21, 28-26 and 25-20 Thursday night in a Valley Conference South volleyball match.

The win snapped a five-match losing streak for the Blackhawks.

Sarah Haynes was 14-for-14 serving with three aces, had eight blocks and four kills. Taylor Thomas was 17-for-17 serving with one ace. Katie Osborne had 33 digs. Cinthia Sorelo had 11 kills and Katie Thompson added seven set assists. Carina Aguilar had seven digs.

Madelia (4-8, 1-2) travels to play Truman Tuesday night.
