A Frustrating Loss

NEW ULM – With the playoffs a little more than a week away, the New Ulm girls soccer team is hoping that things can get back on track and in a hurry.

On Thursday, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime against Mankato Loyola and things looked to be going good for them.

But New Ulm gave up two goals in the second half, the eventual game winner coming with about eight minutes remaining, and the Eagles fell to Loyola 2-1 in a South Central Conference game at the Martin Luther College Soccer Complex.

It was the fourth straight loss for a team searching for answers late in the season.

“It was a matter of not being all on the same page,” Eagles coach Jonathan Johnson said. “They weren’t communicating out there, our passes weren’t going where they were supposed to.”

Bridgette Brown scored New Ulm’s goal with 6:55 left in the first half and the goal was unassisted.

The Eagles (5-8) have just two games left in the season before the playoffs begin.

New Ulm looks to get back on track when the Eagles host Mankato East at 1 p.m. Saturday at Martin Luther College.
