Marktplatz Mall drawings for Oktoberfest

NEW ULM – The Marktplatz Mall is holding drawings for Oktoberfest.

Kids can win a Kindle Fire HD by filling out a New Ulm History crossword puzzle and turning it in at the Markplatz Mall. Puzzles are available at some schools, or can be picked up at the Marktplatz Mall, KNUJ, and the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce.

Police Chief Myron Wieland will draw a winner at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 4.

For adults, several prizes will be drawn in the mall right after the kids’ drawing. Besides several small prizes, the grand prize is the winner’s choice of an Adrian Peterson or Joe Mauer jersey.

During week two of Oktoberfest, the other jersey will be given away. Entry forms are at the mall, next to Herberger’s at Ted’s Outlet Store, Lambrecht’s, KNUJ, and the Chamber of Commerce. People can enter Yevery time they visit one of the sponsors.

Garden Club to meet Wednesday

NEW ULM – The October meeting of the New Ulm Garden Club will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the New Ulm Airport at 7 p,m.

A “Bounty From Our Gardens” potluck will be held. Please bring a dish to pass. Plates and utensils will be provided. Everyone is welcome.

Happy Joe’s Tip Night fundraiser

NEW ULM – Happy Joe’s tip night on Tuesday, October 1st will benefit 10 Holy Cross Area Faith Community youth headed to the National Catholic Youth Council (NCYC) in Indianapolis, Ind. NCYC is the largest national gathering of Catholic youth in grades 9 – 12 and is an opportunity for them to celebrate their faith with approximately 25,000 other youth and chaperones.

Some of the youth and their chaperones will be on hand at Happy Joe’s from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to wait on tables and tell people about the trip they are planning. Happy Joe’s will donate a percentage of sales to the youth for the trip and 100 percent of tips will go toward expenses.

NUACT?holding youth theater workshop

NEW ULM – The New Ulm Actors Community Theatre announced that it will present, “Rumpelstiltskin,” an interactive workshop and a play.

Children is in Grades 1-6 who would like to participate in the play, must sign up for the free workshop offered on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the former Middle School located at the corner of Washington and State Streets in New Ulm. Use Door #7. The workshop is limited to 15 children.

The play will take place in the Marktplatz Mall in historic downtown New Ulm, on Saturday, Oct. 12, with three performances at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. The event is free and open to all. Audience members will find themselves getting hilariously involved in the action taking place on stage.

This program is made possible by a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council and funding from NURDC.
