Waldon “Wally” Shavlik
NEW ULM – Waldon “Wally” Shavlik, 73, of New Ulm died Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-11 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Wally is survived by his wife, Sharon Shavlik of New Ulm; his mother, Velma Shavlik of New Ulm; sons, Dave Shavlik and special friend Judy Hofmeister of New Ulm, Michael Shavlik and special friend, Denise Jenkins of Eden Prairie; grandsons, Desmond and Dexter Shavlik; brothers, Gene (Wendy) Shavlik of Spring Park, Dwight (Gretchen) Shavlik of New Ulm, Gary (Cathy) Shavlik of Alexandria, Va., Craig (Leslie) Shavlik of Walker; and by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Nettie Preisinger of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Shavlik; and his parents in-law, Henry and Delores Preisinger.
Waldon Darrell Shavlik was born May 2, 1940 in Fairfax to Archie and Velma (Holub) Shavlik. He was a 1958 graduate of New Ulm High School. Wally was employed at Kraft Foods for 42 years until retiring in 2000. He was an avid hunter from an early age and he also liked to fish. Wally loved to hunt deer with his bow and hunt wild turkey. He had a hobby of carving gunstocks from a block of wood to finished product, without the aid of machines. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball, hockey and NASCAR racing.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #132 and a honorary lifetime member of the New Ulm Battery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the American Cancer Society.
