NEW ULM – JoAnn Hagberg-Hubbard, 85, of the New Ulm and Lafayette area, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 in hospice care in Mankato of complications associated with pancreatic cancer.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, October 7, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop with Pastor Robert Miner officiating. Burial will follow in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lafayette.
Visitation will be 2 5 PM Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Owen Hubbard of Mankato; daughters, Jerilyn (Dale) Bergdahl of Charlotte, Vermont, Diane Lueck ( Matt Tripp) of Bloomington, Beth (Arlin) Miller of Winthrop, Jean (Randy) Farrow of Mankato; sons, Jay (Wendy) Hagberg of Lafayette, Alan (Kris) Hagberg of Lafayette; Owen’s children, David Hubbard, Nadine Novo, Charlie Hubbard and Elizabeth Hubbard; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sisters, Nadean Johnson of New Ulm, Helen (Fred) Gratz of St. James; and by a brother, Conrad (Donna) Hoffman of Byron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her first husband, Donald Hagberg, in1976.
JoAnn was a devoted mother, and her greatest love was her family. She made sure that there were many occasions for family celebrations. She traveled many miles to spend special time with her family members and many hours on the phone ‘just checking in’ with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; who loved her dearly and were very special to her.
JoAnn Louise Hoffman was born in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County to Charlie and Myrtle (Lindquist) Hoffman. She was a 1945 graduate of New Ulm High School. JoAnn was united in marriage to Donald Hagberg on January 24, 1947 in Lafayette. After marriage Donald and JoAnn farmed in Lafayette and Cornish Townships. JoAnn also worked at Citizen’s Bank in Lafayette, Winthrop Savings and Loan and the Lafayette Good Samaritan Center. She married Owen Hubbard on July 15, 2002 in Apache Junction, Arizona. JoAnn volunteered many hours as a 4-H leader and with the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Sunday School teacher and volunteered with the ladies aid at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette, where she was a former member. She enjoyed dancing, sewing and working with flowers.
