MLC women defeat BLC

MANKATO – The Martin Luther College women’s soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Bethany Lutheran 2-1 Thursday night.

Bethany grabbed an early lead, but Alex Hastings evened things at 1-1 just 27 second later off a pass from Bethany Schultz. Schultz put the Knights ahead in the 65th minute, scoring her ninth of the season off a Hastings feed.

MLC made that one-goal lead hold the rest of the way, as the defense allowed just four total shots on the day, two of which were on goal. The Knights outshot BLC 21-4 for the game.

MLC hosts BLC Saturday.

Bethany blanks MLC men

MANKATO – The Martin Luther College men’s soccer team lost 1-0 at Bethany Lutheran Thursday night.

BLC grabbed the momentum early in the second half, with Juan Garcia scoring in the 47th minute off a rebound in front of the goal to give the Vikings the only goal of the game and the win.

Eric Hahn stopped six of the seven shots he faced in goal for the Knights.

MLC dropped to 4-8 overall and 3-4 in the UMAC with the loss, while BLC improved to 7-4 on the season and 5-2 in league play with the win.

The two teams will meet again at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Knight Field.
