HONU’s 6th Annual Community Summit planned for Oct. 29
NEW ULM – The New Ulm area community is invited to attend Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project’s Sixth Annual Community Summit on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at New Ulm Event Center, 301 20th St. S.
The free event will feature a variety of activities and a keynote presentation on managing stress by Joe Piscatella, one of the country’s most respected experts on how to live a healthful lifestyle.
Founder and president of the Institute for Fitness & Health, Piscatella uses the art of storytelling, contagious humor and decades of experience to deliver a powerful, practical message on managing stress. Author of 13 books, he is a frequent guest on The Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America and Fox News; a guest expert on heart health for WebMD; and host of three PBS television specials on lifestyle and health.
Piscatella offers a practical perspective that comes from his own experience. After having coronary bypass surgery at age 32, he has used lifestyle to successfully manage his health for 36 years.
The summit will also offer a last chance for the community to register for the LOSE IT to WIN IT Community Health Challenge. More than 1,725 people have registered, but an additional 775 participants are needed to reach the goal of 2,500 registrations by Oct. 31. Only if the goal is met will the community will earn the first full $25,000 toward the $100,000 community prize of outdoor fitness equipment and bicycle improvements.
Schedule of activities
From 6 to 7 p.m.:
LOSE IT to WIN IT challenge: Attendees who bring a friend to the Community Summit and have the friend register for the challenge will get a free gift. Registered participants can also complete their first quarterly weigh in if they haven’t previously done so.
Free food samples from Hy-Vee’s kitchen available.
Hy-Vee fuel vouchers: Attendees can pick up a free voucher for 10 cents off per gallon of gas on the Hy-Vee fuel saver card. Those who don’t have a card can sign up for one.
Share whom you’re proud of or want to stay healthy for: Attendees are invited to create their own personal message for those around them and have their photo taken with their message to create a large motivational message display.
