Bank robbery in Eagle Lake; Suspect flees police, then is apprehended and arrested
BLUE EARTH COUNTY – A Minnesota State Trooper and Blue Earth County Deputy chased a bank robbery suspect for several miles on Waseca County roads before stopping and arresting a 25-year-old Kentucky man Tuesday.
The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and Eagle Lake Police got a report of a bank robbery at Peoples State Bank, Eagle Lake, at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday. Bank employees said a white male suspect entered the bank, displayed a weapon, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to a Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office news release.
A State Trooper and Blue Earth County Deputy located a possible suspect eastbound on U.S. Highway 14, east of Janesville, at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. Officers tried to stop the vehicle without success at first. When they stopped the vehicle, they arrested George R. Gaunt of Louisville, Ky,m southwest of Waseca on 130th Ave. Items linking Gaunt to the robbery were found in his possession at the time of the arrest, according to the news release.
Gaunt faces possible charges of aggravated robbery and fleeing police in a motor vehicle.
