SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s shut out Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Wednesday in a Southern Minnesota Conference football game.

St. Mary’s Brandon Helget was 10 for 17 passing for 114 yards. Helget had seven carries for 55 yards. Lucas Heiderscheidt had 13 carries for 60 yards and David Surprenaut had 19 carries for 135 yards. Heiderscheidt and Surprenaut each had 10 tackles for St. Mary’s.

BLHS stats were unavailable.

St. Mary’s (8-0 overall and conference) will host a Section 2A playoff game Tuesday against an opponent yet to be determined.

Wabasso 35, CM-C 12

WABASSO – Wabasso scored 28 points in the first half en route to a 35-12 win over Cedar Mountain/Comfrey Wednesday night

Neil Eichten was 7-for-14 passing for 151 yards and two touchdowns for the Rabbits. Tanner Bock rushed 25 times for 152 yards and three touchdowns.

Riley Kerkhoff was 4-for-10 passing for 36 yards and one interception for CM/C. Brady Kerkhoff rushed 13 times for 91 yards and one touchdown.

Wabasso (7-1) opens Section 5A play on Tuesday when it hosts an opponent to be determined.

CM/C opens the Section 2A playoffs on the road against an opponent to determined on Tuesday.


WINTHROP – New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva crushed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 40-0 Wednesday night in Gopher Valley Conference football action.

NRHEG built a 28-0 first-half lead to seal the win early.

Tristan Schmidt had 11 carries for 46 yards for the Thunderbirds while Tanner Wiethoff and Thomas Weikle each had 12 tackles defensively.

GFW finishes the regular season 0-8 and 0-5 in the conference. It is scheduled to play Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs against an opponent to be determined.

Madelia 36, Randolph 24

MADELIA – Madelia defeated Randolph in Southern Confederacy football Wednesday.

Derek Van Hee rushed for three touchdowns and had 170 yards on the ground. Kyle Schultz passed for 229 yards and the Blackhawks had 457 yards of total offense.

Defensively, Jesus Lopez had five sacks and eight tackles. Jake Denn had eight tackles.

Madelia (6-2) hosts a playoff game on Tuesday.
