Helen Frances Byro
Helen Frances Byro, age 82, of Madelia, MN died on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Madelia Community Hospital.
Service will be held at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
The clergy will be Pastor Sarah Taylor.
Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Madelia, MN.
Visitation will be on 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel, Madelia and will continue on Wednesday from 10- 11 a.m. at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church.
Helen Frances was born at home in Madelia Township on December 22, 1930, the daughter of Ole and Alma (Jorgenson) Quam. She was baptized and confirmed at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. Helen graduated from Hanska High School in 1948 and then attended LPN training at Union Hospital in New Ulm. She was united in marriage to Edwin Byro on September 10, 1950 at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. They made their home on the farm until 1986 when they moved to Madelia. Helen retired from nursing in 1984 after working at the St. James Watonwan Memorial Hospital for 19 years. She also worked at Wanzek’s in Madelia. Helen enjoyed her family and felt very blessed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen cherished her many friends, young and old. She loved to read, play cards, garden and embroider. Helen was loved by all and touched many hearts during her life.
Survivors include her son, Kevin (Connie) Byro of Madelia; daughter, Judy (Jim) Hruby of Madelia; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Bernstrom and children James Kevin & Helen Margaret, Jay Hruby, Jeff (Jodi) Hruby and children, Ayden Michael & Paxton Ray and Margaret (Scott) Jilek; siblings, Sylvia Ardyce Reinhart of New Ulm, Donald (Eunice) Quam of New Ulm and Lynette (Pat) Mathews of Richfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; and sister Quidelle Melzer.
