Hans Joohs intern completes her work at Schell’s Brewery
NEW ULM – Sabrina Svechla will be heading home to Germany soon, but she celebrated her stay in New Ulm with friends she has made during the past three months as the Sister Cities Hans Joohs Exchange intern from Germany to New Ulm.
Svechla, who is earning her master’s degree in business back in Germany, worked with the August Schell brewery doing a lot of different things, but especially working with the marketing.
On Monday, the Sister Cities Commission hosted a get-together for her at the Schell’s Taproom. A full house of friends she has met, especially her host families, came to celebrate with her.
A lot of thanks were handed out, by Jack Minch of the Sister Cities Commission, by Mayor Robert Beussman, and by Svechla herself.
Her host families were Brian and Mary Lou Serbus, Bob and Jess Webb, and Bruce and Janet Lokensgard. Jensen Motors provided the car she used while here.
Ted Marti, president of the Schell’s Brewery said it was a new experience for him to have an intern, “but I couldn’t imagine a nicer person to have.” Marti said she was involved in the marketing activities, but she was given a lot of other duties as well. During the recent Oktoberfest celebration at the brewery she was a “pretzel girl.”
She thanked the Martis for being like “a fourth host family. I enjoyed every day coming to work. These are the best bosses you could have,” Svechla said.
Her activities included trips around the state and to Colorado, and attending the opening games for the Vikings, the Minnesota Wild and on Wednesday the Timberwolves.
Svechla wiped away a few tears as she spoke to the crowd. “It was a great opportunity to be here and be part of the exchange. You all made my stay so special,” she said.
On Sunday Svechla will be leaving for Florida to meet her parents and do some traveling before returning to Germany.
