EDINA – Roman Schmid, 84, of Edina, and formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, October 26, 2013.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor Douglas L. Grams celebrating the Mass. A private family burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.

Roman is survived by his daughter, Ann Schmid and son, Paul Schmid.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Schmid in February of 2010; and brother, Joe Schmid.
Roman G. Schmid was born on December 27, 1928 in New Ulm to Roman L. and Minnie (Neuwirth) Schmid. He attended St. Mary’s grade school from 1934 through 1942. He then attended New Ulm High School from 1942 until his graduation in 1946. On June 8, 1963 Roman was united in marriage to Helen M. Bakken in Richfield.
In June of 1946, Roman began his employment with State Bond and Mortgage Company. In June of 1948 he joined the Minnesota National Guard but continued working with State Bond. In January of 1951, his unit Service Company of the 135th Infantry, 47th Division was activated during the Korean conflict. He served as First Sergeant from June of 1950 until he was discharged in May of 1952. Roman then rejoined State Bond and Mortgage in May of 1952. There he held various positions and was ultimately named President of the company in June of 1970. Roman retired in April of 1994 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Roman was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm.
