SPRINGFIELD – Donald Friedrich, 88, of Springfield, died on Oct. 28, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Service will be held at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, St. John Lutheran Home, on Friday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. The clergy will be Pastor David G. Fretham. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery – Springfield.
Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 1, from 9-11 a.m. at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.

Donald Carl Friedrich was born Aug. 8, 1925 in Springfield to Art and Myrtle (Jorgenson) Friedrich. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 8, 1943. Don served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged Jan. 20, 1946. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Schmidt on Aug. 16, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Don worked for his grandfather building churches until going to work for Potter Motors where he sold Chevrolets and Buicks for 25 years. Don won several state awards and was named “Salesman of the Year” by GMC. In his semi-retirement, he worked with his son Ron painting for 10 years. Don also served as Springfield’s City Assessor for over 20 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and John Watson American Legion Post 257. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and following the Atlanta Braves. He especially enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events. Don Friedrich “Put the Bats Away” on Monday Oct. 28, 2013.
He is survived by daughter LeeAnn and husband Cleve Simonson of Springfield; son Ron and wife Ellen Friedrich of New Ulm; grandchildren, Christian (Jackie) Simonson and their children Dakodah and Chay of Mankato, Nicole (Todd) Harrington of Shoreview, and Sean (Laura) Simonson and their children Maren and Madison of Northfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife Betty in 2003.
