NEW ULM – Rebecca Engelbrecht put on a show in her last regular season home game as a Knight, and Martin Luther College swept College of St. Scholastica 25-20, 25-22, 25-23.

Engelbrecht recorded 13 digs in the match to go along with her game high 18 kills and .327 attack percentage.

With her performance on Saturday, Engelbrecht became just the second volleyball player in Knights’ history to record more than 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.

Even though the Knights came away with the sweep, they had to fight for every set they won.

The first set was tied 17-17 before Engelbrecht went on a tear. She recorded five of the Knights’s last eight points with four kills and a block.

Junior Heather Danell and sophomore Morgan Kumbier each added blocks to help secure the first set for the Knights.

MLC fell behind early in the second set, but it was able to show its strong will and perseverance by coming from behind and taking an early 2-0 lead in the match.

“We know that we have the ability to get things done, and we are mentally tough enough to not get down on ourselves just because we are down a couple points,” Engelbrecht said.

The final set was neck and neck again as Scholastica tried to extend the match, but Engelbrecht once again stepped up at the end of the set with multiple late kills to close out the match.

“I was really proud of our team today,” Engelbrecht said. “It was just a really good way to end the regular season.”

Juniors Alex Anthon and Kayla Schoeneck each recorded a game high 16 digs. Schoeneck had seven kills to go with her 16 digs.

Miranda Maasz had 40 set assists in the match and she surpassed 1,000 set assists this season, making her just the second Knight to accomplish that feat.

The Knights (17-11, 10-4) will face Minnesota Morris on the road in the semi-final round of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday.

“These last couple games have definitely given us momentum going into the playoffs,” Engelbrecht said. “We know that we can go out and get it done as a team.”
