NEW ULM – Maynard Youngblom, 92, of New Ulm, formerly of Fairfax, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Funeral Service will be Monday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with Pastor Scott Jakel and Pastor Roger Melquist officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 10, 3-6 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Maynard Werner Youngblom was born on July 14, 1921, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. He was the son of Werner and Esther (Johnson) Youngblom. Maynard was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education in Lafayette and New Ulm.
On August 25, 1949, Maynard was united in marriage to Grace Hedman. This marriage was blessed with four children. He was a dairy farmer in rural Lafayette.
On Nov. 9, 1991, Maynard was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dotty” (Litka) Rohwer at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. After their marriage, the couple resided in Fairfax.
Maynard was the longest member of First Lutheran Church in Lafayette.
Maynard enjoyed playing cards and gardening. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Maynard and Dotty enjoyed 16 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona, with friends.
He will be dearly missed.
Maynard is survived by his children, Gary Youngblom and his wife, Lola of Nicollet, Beverly Liebig and her husband, Bob of North Oaks, Dean Youngblom and his wife, Sandy of Wells, and Debra Baik and her husband, Jin of Vadnais Heights; step-children, Pamela Rucks of Belle Plaine, and Timothy Rohwer and his wife, Wendy of Arlington; 15 grandchildren, Nathan Tyler and his wife, Erin, Brandon Tyler, Justin Youngblom and his wife, Kristen, Eric Youngblom and his wife, Elizabeth, Nicole Carlson and her husband, Frank, Alicia Baik, Monica Baik, Lt. Seung-Min Baik, Matthew Liebig, Andrea Liebig, Aaron Rucks and his wife, Lori, Kelly Rucks, Ryan Rohwer and his wife, Marley, Michael Boe, Haley Rohwer; 12 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Lilah, Miles, Natalie, Noah, Blake, Jackson, Gavin, Emerald, Danielle, Seth, and Tegan; sisters, Vivian Altman and her husband, Armin of New Ulm, and Elaine Hermanson of Nicollet; brother, Stanley Youngblom of Lafayette; nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, Werner and Esther Youngblom; first wife, Grace Youngblom; second wife, Dorothy “Dotty” Youngblom; sisters-in-law, Jean Madsen and Shirley Youngblom; brothers-in-law, Harold Luck, Harvey Erickson, LeMoyne Madsen and Carroll Hermanson; grandson, Jay; son-in-law, Herb Tyler; and stepson-in-law, Cameron Rucks.
