Elmer “Bud” Isakson

GIBBON – Elmer “Bud” Isakson, 99, of Gibbon, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 16, at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor David Winterfeldt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Saturday.

Bud is survived by his sons, Dick (Diane) Isakson of Gibbon, Gary (Cheryl) Isakson of Lake Mary, Florida; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and ten stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Orda on March 27, 1970 and Esther on October 2, 1995; sisters, Anna Flinkinger, Alice Wahlquist, Esther Gilbertson, Mabel Curtis, Lillian Erickson, Edna Nitzkowski; and by his brothers, Oscar, Carl and Lester Isakson.

Elmer Lawrence Isakson was born June 17, 1914 in Gibbon to Louis and Hannah (Olin) Isakson. After graduating from Gibbon High School in 1932 Bud joined Isakson’s Plumbing and Heating in Gibbon, which was started by his father in 1891. He became a partner in the business with his brothers Carl and Lester in 1939. He continued to assist with service work until the age of 96. Bud continued to live at home until he entered the Fairfax Community Home in September 2013. He was united in marriage to Orda Grasmon on December 25, 1939 in Fairfax and then Esther Ruud on November 29, 1972 in Litchfield. Bud enjoyed working, traveling, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with family.

Bud was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and the building committee. He was also a charter member of the Gibbon Lions Club.
