Cecilia “Cele” Beranek
NEW?ULM?- Cecilia “Cele” Beranek, 90, of New Ulm, died Monday, November 18, 2013, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, November 22, at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the St. George Catholic Church Cemetery in St. George.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, and from 7:30-10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Cecilia is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Aleda Beranek, Daniel and Trudy Beranek, all of New Ulm, and Roger and Patty Beranek of St. George; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Bradley and Beth Beranek, Andrew and Rochell Beranek, Angela and Scott Foster, Amanda and Travis Thooft, Jack Beranek, Kelly and Jeremy Brennan, Keith and Lyndsey Beranek, Craig and Shari Beranek, Kristin and James Hillesheim, Katie and Jesse Nosbush, and Chelsey and Ryan Franta; 22 great-grandchildren; twin sister Agnes Guggisberg of Gibbon, sister and brother-in-law Gertrude “Gertie” and Leroy Rathmann of New Ulm, and sister-in-law Odelia Beranek Forst of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis Beranek, on November 23, 1999, and by their son, Donald Beranek, on September 17, 1964, due to a farm accident; sister and brother-in-law Magdalen and Delmar Muehlbauer, and brother-in-law Alex Guggisberg.
Cecilia Anne Hanslick was born on February 11, 1923, to Joseph and Mary (Smasal) Hanslick at home on the family farm in Lafayette Township. She attended District 53 country school, Lafayette High School, and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1941. She worked as a waitress for several years at Beyer’s Restaurant in New Ulm until her marriage to Francis Beranek on October 15, 1946, at the St. George Catholic Church. Cecilia and her husband farmed together in St. George for 28 years until they sold the farm to their son and daughter-in-law in 1974 and moved to New Ulm. She worked at her husband and son’s establishment, Danny’s Bar, from 1974-1989, and she volunteered at the former Sioux Valley Hospital Coffee Shop for many years. Cecilia was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Christian Mothers Society, and Catholic United Financial.
Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
She will be greatly missed. Blessed be her memory.
