Mavericks run past Madelia boys

MCW 68, Madelia 62

MADELIA – Martin County West defeated Madelia in a Valley Conference boy’s basketball game Thursday.

MCW led the game at halftime 32-20.

Madelia’s Derrick Van He led the team with 29 points, 24 of them coming in the second half. Garuoth Zak added 10 points.

MCW’s Richard Eckmann scored 17 points and Cordell Weber scored 11 points. Jake Faber had 14 rebounds and 14 points scored. Sam Baker added 10 points and Jake Sinn added 11 rebounds for MCW.

Madelia (2-2 overall, 0-1 in conference) will travel to Granada-Huntley-East Chain Tuesday.

MCW will play at the Target Center today against Luverne.

LCWM 72, Nicollet 60

LAKE CRYSTAL – Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial defeated Nicollet in a Valley Conference boy’s basketball game Thursday.

LCWM’s Bryson Yackel scored 20 points and Ben Coates finished with 16 points.

Nicollet’s Colin Bloemke scored 12 points and had six rebounds. Jay Hendrycks scored 11 points and Matt Christenson added 10 rebounds.

Nicollet (0-3 overall) will host Immanuel Lutheran Monday.

Mountain Lake 59, Springfield 53

MOUNTAIN LAKE – Mountain Lake Area defeated Springfield in a boy’s basketball contest Thursday.

Mountain Lake Area was led by Andrew Hempeck with 18 points, Carter Kirk with 16 points, and Cody Klassen with 14 points.

Tyler Vogel led the Tigers with 20 points and Cooper Scheffler scored15 points.

MLA (2-0) plays tonight at Adrian.

Springfield (2-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday.
