BOYS BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: St. Mary’s boys defeat MCC

St. Mary’s 69, MCC 58

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Murray County Central 69-58 in a non-conference basketball game Friday at the Sleepy Eye Invitational.

John Brandl led the Knights with 16 points. Peyton Adams added 14 points and Jared Rothmeier scored 12 points.

Grant Rohrer led MCC with 18 points and Logan Kluis added 15 points.

St. Mary’s (1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference) will play in the Sleepy Eye Invitational today.

WWG 71, RRC 45

LAMBERTON – Westbrook/Walnut Grove defeated Red Rock Central 71-45 in a Red Rock Conference boy’s basketball game on Friday.

RRC’s Sam Halter scored 14 points and had six rebounds. Austin Price added 10 points and six rebounds.

Alex Knutson, and Matt Otto of WWG, each scored 15 points.

WWG outrebounded RRC 31-29.

WWG (1-3 overall, 1-2 in conference) will host Wabasso today.

RRC (0-3 overall, 0-2 in conference) will travel to Southwest United Tuesday.

Wabasso 56,

New Ulm Cathedral 48

WABASSO – Neil Eichten scored 28 as he led Wabasso past New Ulm Cathedral Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference boy basketball game.

Matt Zeug added 12 points for the Rabbits.

Jacob Gangelhoff led the Greyhounds by scoring 17 points and Michael Skillings scored 16 points.

New Ulm Cathedral (1-3, 1-1) will play Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (1-3) in Fairfax on Monday night.

Wabasso (1-2, 1-1) will play at Westbrook-Walnut Grove tonight.

Sleepy Eye 91,

Prairie Seeds Academy 78

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye defeated Prairie Seeds Academy 91-78 Friday night in the first round of the Sleepy Eye Invitational Tournament.

Brandon Polesky scored 34 points, 16 rebounds and had 11 assists. Austin Trebesch and Isaiah Krumbach each scored 18 points.

Sleepy Eye will play Martin County Central today at 2:30 p.m.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s will play Prairie Seeds Academy at 1 p.m. today. Both games are a part of the next round of the Sleepy Eye Invitational Tournament.

MVL 74, BLHS 71

HECTOR – Minnesota Valley Lutheran earned its first win of the season on Friday night when it edged Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball contest.

Tate Lang scored 32 points and Kyle Kubesh had 25 points for BLHS.

MVL had balanced scoring with Jacob Hoffman scoring 16 points and Nick Dewanz had 15 points. Josh Koelpin and Seth Kroells each scored 11 points.

MVL (1-2, 1-1) will travel to play Springfield (2-2, 1-0) Tuesday night. BLHS (0-2) will host Cedar Mountain/Comfrey (1-2, 1-1) on Tuesday night.
