3 area football players honored by AP

MINNEAPOLIS – Three area players earned state-wide honors on the 2013 AP Football Poll.

Nicollet quarterback Dalton Elliott, Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defensive lineman Carter Krzmarzick and Sibley East linebacker Ben White were all named to the AP All-State Third Team, according to a news release.

Elliott led Nicollet to an undefeated regular season and a state tournament berth while competing 59 percent of his passes for a state-best 2,872 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Krzmarzick tallied 78 total tackles and 2.5 sacks en route to anchoring a St. Mary’s defense that allowed roughly 10 points per game this season.

White broke the school record for total tackles with 389 in his three years as a starter. He also had 14 sacks and 10 forced fumbles during his career.
