Eagles fall to Northfield
NEW ULM – The New Ulm boys hockey team gave up a two-goal lead early on and lost a nonconference battle to Northfield 5-4 at the New Ulm Civic Center.
Northfield’s Grant Parrish led the Raiders with a hat trick. He also had an assist for the Raiders, who improved to 2-3.
Jon Kopacek scored two goals for New Ulm.
Matt Berkner had 21 saves for the Eagles and Paul Hummel had 31 saves for the Raiders.
New Ulm (2-3) got on the board first when Kopacek found the back of the net at the 15:50 mark in the first period. Colin Huffman and Alex Stark assisted on the goal
Kopacek scored again later in the second period at the 1:57 mark. The goal was a power play goal and it was assisted by Jared Beltz.
But after that, the Raiders scored four straight goals, with three straight goals by Parrish for the natural hat trick. Nathan Scofield scored the Raiders’ fourth goal to make it 4-2 in favor of Northfield.
New Ulm cut the deficit to 4-3 after Judd Davis scored at the 3:14 mark in the third period. Davis’ goal was assisted by Wyatt Peterson.
The Eagles tied the game at 4-4 when Beltz scored off of an assist from Kopacek and Huffman, but the Raiders went ahead for good when Eann Johnson scored at the 8:24 mark.
