Trio doing homecoming concert Saturday in New Ulm

NEW ULM – As they have in recent years, three professional musicians with New Ulm roots will perform a holiday homecoming concert again, starting at 9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21 at the New Ulm Event Center.

Nashville musicians Brenda Zitzman, a 1996 Cathedral High School graduate; and Jason Hoffman, a 1993 New Ulm High School graduate, plus Jay Kalk, also a 1993 NUHS grad, will perform some of their favorite country, rock and other types of music on acoustic guitars.

Fans may recall Hoffman and Kalk who teamed up in the Minnesota Music Award-winning Reggae band “3 Minute Hero” that produced three albums and toured the midwest from 1997 to 2000.

Hoffman moved to Nashville where he performed and recorded with a number of musicians before getting a house gig at the Wild Horse Saloon – a 66,000-square foot live music and dance destination with a restaurant known for Southern barbecue and fried pickles, a bar, concert site, dance venue and television studio that draws nationally and internationally-known musicians.

Recently, Hoffman toured the U.S., played bass with NBC’s “The Voice” contestant Gwen Sebastian and was a backup singer for CMA Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year, Blake Shelton. Hoffman’s tour took him from the Florida Keys to the mountains of Montana, California, and many other places.

Kalk’s musical travels have taken him across the country, Europe and Asia. He lived in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Honolulu before moving to Minneapolis. Locally, he’s appeared with “Church of Cash,” a Johnny Cash tribute show.

Zitzman toured 35 states and eight foreign countries including Switzerland, Belgium and Germany with the band “Mustang Sally.” A distance runner, she volunteers for “Girls On The Run Nashville,” an after-school program for girls in third through eighth grade, designed to use the benefits of running for healthier living.
