District 88 to hold tax hearing
NEW ULM – The District 88 Board of Education on Thursday will hold a truth in taxation hearing at 6:30 p.m. at the District Administrative Center.
The proposed taxes payable in 2014 provide local effort for the school year 2014-15, says meeting documentation. The recommended total for taxes payable in 2014 is $6,212,183. This is a decrease of $33,035, or 0.54 percent, compared to taxes payable in 2013.
The board is also expected to hold a regular meeting after the hearing to approve the levy.
At the regular meeting, the board is also expected to approve a contract with the union representing support staff. The union of paraprofessionals and health aides have voted to approve the agreement.
The increase in cost for the school district is $53,382 for this year and $55,068 for next year. The total financial package increase is 6.52 percent. Everyone will receive a $0.25 raise in each year. Those who qualify for longevity will earn an additional $0.25 in year one and $0.30 in year two. The board will match retirement savings based on years of service, with the match ranging from $75 to $150 annually.
The board will also consider approval of an allocation of community service funds, in the amount of $4,500, to Community and Seniors together (CAST) for 2013-14.
