Thunderbirds defeat Belle Plaine

GFW girls 60, Belle Plaine 53

BELLE PLAINE – Halley Busse scored 40 points to lead Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop past Belle Plaine on Thursday night in a nonconference girl’s basketball game.

GFW was able to make key free throws towards the end of the game to ensure the win.

GFW (2-3) will play New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva on Dec. 27 at the St. Peter Holiday Tournament.

Sleepy Eye girls 58,

Cleveland 52

CLEVELAND – Sleepy Eye defeated Cleveland 58-52 on Thursday in a nonconference girl’s basketball matchup.

Cleveland’s Taylor Holicky scored 19 points.

Josie Schieffert scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Sleepy Eye. Justine Gonzalez and Claire Krumbach each added 14 points. and six rebounds. Gonzalez added three steals and Krumbach added four steals.

Sleepy Eye (4-4, 1-3 Tomahawk) will play Dec. 28 at Southwest Minnesota State University for a tournament.

St. James boys 84,

New Ulm 70

ST. JAMES – St. James defeated New Ulm on Thursday night in a South Central Conference boy’s basketball game.

Jackson Yackley led the Eagles with 22 points and Grant Kannegiesser added 16 with nine rebounds.

Zack Brandts led St. James with 25 points and Walker Froehling scored 18 points.

New Ulm (2-6) will play at Mankato East on Saturday night. St. James (5-0) will play at Madelia (3-3) on Friday.

ACGC boys 67, CMC 51

MORGAN-Atwater/Cosmos/Grove City defeated Cedar Mountain/Comfrey Thursday in a non-conference boy’s basketball match-up.

CM/C’s Brady Kerkhoff led the Cougars with 13 points. Javin Larsen scored nine points and had four assists. Riley Kerkhoff added 10 rebounds. No stats were available for ACGC.
