PREP GIRL’S BASKETBALL: Tigers held off by Trojans

ST. JAMES – Worthington defeated Springfield 65-38 in the championship game of the St. James Invitational in nonconference girl’s basketball action on Saturday.

Joeli Arnoldi led the Tigers (3-3, 2-2 Tomahawk) with 16 points and three assists. Therese Roiger had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Worthington was led by Brooke Henney, who had 20 points.

Springfield returns to action against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Fairfax.

Elkton/Lake Benton 65, Sleepy Eye 51

MARSHALL – Elkton (S.D.)/Lake Benton (Minn.) beat Sleepy Eye 65-51 in a nonconference girl’s basketball game at the SMSU Invitational on Saturday.

Josie Schieffert had 22 points, seven rebounds and nine blocks for the Indians (4-5, 1-3 Tomahawk). Claire Krumbach had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Sleepy Eye will play at Nicollet on Thursday.
