Agnes “Aggie” Schiltz

NEW ULM – Agnes “Aggie” Schiltz, 88, of New Ulm and formerly of Gibbon died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Monsignor Douglas Grams celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the St. Willibrord’s Catholic Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation will be 4 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:30 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, North Chapel, in New Ulm. Agnes is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Addie and Gene Steinhaus of Shakopee, Earlene and Lyle Rusch of Lafayette; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Arlys Schiltz of Gibbon, Richard Schiltz and his special friend, Carla of Conover, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Mary Ryan of Richfield; brother, Stanley Lauwagie of Gibbon; sisters-in-law, Florence Lauwagie of Winthrop, Shirley Lauwagie of Gibbon, Phyllis Nider of Montevideo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl “Curly” Schiltz on Dec. 21, 1998; sisters, Rose Schwab, Alice Stippel; brothers, Harry L. Lauwagie and Harland Lauwagie.

Agnes M. Lauwagie was born on July 26, 1925 in Fairfax to Frank and Octave (Schoutteet) Lauwagie. On April 7, 1942 she was united in marriage to Earl Schiltz at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. After marriage they farmed in rural Gibbon and she worked at 3M in New Ulm. Agnes moved to New Ulm in October of 1999. Agnes enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, crocheting, and traveling. Agnes had been president and vice president of the bowling association in Gibbon and New Ulm and was entered into the New Ulm Bowling Hall of Fame in 2003.

Agnes was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, the Christian Mother’s Society, and numerous card clubs.
