MVL?hangs on to beat St. Mary’s

MVL 63, St. Mary’s 58

SLEEPY EYE – Anna Munsen had a game-high 22 points in helping lead Minnesota Valley Lutheran to a 63-58 win against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in a Tomahawk Conference girl’s basketball on Friday night.

Behind Munsen’s 22 points was Charlotte Pfingsten’s 12 with Nicole Moldstad adding 10 for the Chargers (6-1, 4-0 Tomahawk).

For the Knights (2-6, 0-4), Sabrina Portner and Becca Schmitz each had a double-double with Portner netting 14 points and 12 rebounds and Schmitz tallying 11 and 10.

Larissa Helget added 12 points and Nikki Carr had 10 for the Knights.

MVL will face Wabasso on Tuesday, which is when St. Mary’s will host Cedar Mountain/Comfrey.

Waseca 59, New Ulm 43

WASECA – Waseca defeated New Ulm 59-43 in South Central Conference girl’s basketball on Friday night.

Meleah Reinhart led the Eagles (1-8, 1-3 South Central) in scoring with 15 points. Ellie Schneider had 10 points while Hunter Ahlness added seven.

New Ulm will host Marshall at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sleepy Eye 62, CM/C 37

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye defeated Cedar Mountain/Comfrey 62-37 in a Tomahawk Conference girl’s basketball game on Friday night.

Josie Schieffert led the Indians (6-5, 2-3 Tomahawk) with 22 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. Justine Gonzalez also had 21 points.

Natalie Hoffbeck led the Cougars (6-2, 3-2) with 12 points.

Sleepy Eye will play at New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday, while CM/C will play at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday. Both games are scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.

Glencoe-Silver Lake 49, Sibley East 40

ARLINGTON – Glencoe-Silver Lake defeated Sibley East 49-40 in a nonconference girl’s basketball game on Friday night.

Megan Eckberg led the Wolverines (3-5, 1-2 Minnesota River) with 10 points. Katie Tuchtenhagen had eight points and Jessica Garza added seven.

Sibley East plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wabasso 70, BLHS 50

HECTOR – Wabasso improved to 9-0 on the season with a 70-50 win against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in Tomahawk Conference girl’s basketball action on Friday night.

Michelle Melsha and Mara Olinger led the Mustangs (1-4, 1-4 Tomahawk) with 10 points apiece. Breanna Buboltz and Katie Kalenberg chipped in for eight points apiece.

BLHS hosts Springfield on Tuesday, while Wabasso hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran.
