Total loss in garage fire
NEW ULM – Several dozen New Ulm firefighters battled a late-night garage fire in sub-zero degree temperatures Tuesday at 116 S. Front St.
Firefighters got the call at 11:37 p.m. and fought the blaze for more than an hour, returning to the fire station at 12:45 a.m. There were no injuries, New Ulm Fire Chief Paul Macho said.
“We dumped a lot of water down there, but there was a total loss of contents, lots of bikes and televisions,” Macho said. “We sent all three companies, two engine companies and a ladder company. When it’s that cold, we try to rotate everyone as best we can.”
Macho said the City of New Ulm Street Department dumped lots of sand to counter all the ice on 1st South street on Wednesday.
