Eagles slip past St. Peter in SCC

NEW ULM – The New Ulm gymnastics team tallied another win with a victory against St. Peter in South Central Conference action on Friday night.

The Eagles debuted their new sequined uniforms and sparkled past the Saints with an overall score of 132.225-126.85.

Prior to their last event of floor exercise, the score was quite close. With terrific performances by all five girls, the Eagles managed to take the top four spots to pull ahead of the Saints.

“They’re working hard on floor, so it’s nice to see that they’re pushing themselves in practice, not only to add new things but to perfect the things that they do have,” said coach Ariel McFarland.

With several of the girls attempting new, more difficult vaults, the scores naturally dipped a little lower then they are used to on the event.

“It’s always difficult when you’re trying new skills, once they start sticking them, it’ll be there,” McFarland said.

New Ulm’s Emily Gulden took first place in the all-around event for the Eagles with a score of 33.55. Gulden also placed in each individual event, finishing first on balance beam (8.30), second on floor exercise (8.675), third on uneven bars (7.875) and fifth on vault (8.70).

Teammate Molly Klimek took third overall with a score of 33.175. Klimek took second on bars (8.225), third on beam (7.85), and fourth on floor (8.675) and vault (8.880).

Allison Rosenhamer had the high score of the night for the Eagles with an 8.950 on floor, and also finished second on beam (8.175) and third on vault (8.875).

St. Peter’s Becca Berry finished second overall (33.475) and was the top performer for the Saints. Berry finished first on bars (8.40), second on vault (9.025) and fifth on floor (8.25).

The Eagles will host a SCC meet against St. James on Thursday, when they will also celebrate Parents Night. The Eagles are 4-1 on the season.
