PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Wabasso holds off Red Rock Central


Wabasso 60, Red Rock Central 50

LAMBERTON – Wabasso defeated Red Rock Central 60-50 in a nonconference girl’s basketball game on Saturday.

Erin Liebl led the Rabbits (11-0, 5-0 Tomahawk) with 12 points and eight rebounds. Karlee Eichten had 11 points and nine rebounds, while Chelsey Guetter had 11 points and eight steals.

Rachel Kedl led the Falcons (5-4, 2-4 Red Rock) with 14 points, while Melanie Kedl added 13 and Brooke Rasmussen had 11.

Wabasso returns to action at Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Tuesday, while Red Rock Central hosts Madelia.


Madelia 73, Fulda 55

FULDA – Madelia defeated Fulda 73-55 in a nonconference boy’s basketball game on Saturday.

The Blackhawks (5-7, 2-3 Valley) led 33-32 at halftime, but outscored their opponent 40-23 to take the victory.

Senior Jack Bergeman led the Blackhawks with 21 points. Sophomore Kyle Schultz also had 20 points, while Jordan Henry added nine.

Madelia will play at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Tuesday.

Faribault 84, New Ulm 73

FARIBAULT – Faribault defeated New Ulm 84-73 in a nonconference boy’s basketball game on Saturday.

Grant Kannegiesser led the Eagles (2-12, 0-5 South Central) with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Jarin Spence also had 10 rebounds to go along with his six points.

New Ulm will host Mankato West on Thursday.

Wabasso 60, Red Rock Central 26

LAMBERTON – Wabasso defeated Red Rock Central 60-26 in a nonconference boy’s basketball game on Saturday.

Tanner Bock led the Rabbits (8-4, 4-2 Tomahawk) with 28 points and 29 rebounds, while Neil Eichten pitched in 25 points.

The Falcons (0-11, 0-7 Red Rock) were led by Tom Blomgren, who had 12 points.

Wabasso hosts Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Monday, while Red Rock Central will play at Sleepy Eye on Thursday.


The Blake School 6, New Ulm 3

HOPKINS – The New Ulm boy’s hockey team fell to The Blake School 6-3 in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Colin Huffman scored two goals for the Eagles (7-7), while Wyatt Peterson scored one.

Matt Berkner had 48 saves in goal.

New Ulm will play at St. Peter/LeSueur-Henderson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
