Kim Amundson

Kim Amundson, 57, of Hendricks, Minnesota died Monday, January 13, 2014.

She was born July 29, 1956 in Granite Falls, Minnesota to Elmo and Marian Volstad. After graduating from Granite Falls High School, Kim attended Alexandria Technical College and later graduated from Bemidji State University. While in Bemidji, she met Matt William Amundson. Following college graduation, Matt and Kim moved to Anchorage, Alaska where they married during a Sunday morning service on November 2, 1980. Kim worked for the Alaskan blood bank as a medical technologist, followed by a job at the Soldotna, Alaska hospital.

Daughters Berit Lee and Leah Ruth were born while they lived in Alaska. In 1985, Kim and her family moved back to Minnesota. Carmen Marie was born while living in Benson, where Kim worked as a medical technologist at the hospital.

Since 1990, Kim and her family have resided in the caring town of Hendricks, Minnesota; a town they chose to raise their family. She was asked to help her husband one day at the bank and never left; she worked there for the past 22 years.

Kim was a member of the Board of Directors at First Security Bank-Hendricks, the manager of the First Security Agency Inc., a member of Christ Lutheran Church, the Hendricks Golf Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, Treasurer of Christ Lutheran WELCA, and various other community organizations.

Kim’s home was one in which, if Christ should chance to enter, He would be pleased to linger and rest and likely be well fed! She followed the advice of her father, who told her that if you stay true to yourself and your God, then you’re set for life.

Kim loved adventure. She loved to travel, cook, garden, downhill and waterski, fish, golf, entertain her many friends, play Scrabble, Sudoku (or any game for that matter!), and loved her pontoon at the lake.

She is preceded in death by her father, Elmo James Volstad; her mother, Bertha Marian (Thorkelson Volstad) Christenson; and her mother’s second husband, Sylvester Christenson.

She is survived by many loved ones, her loving husband and best friend, Matt; her three daughters, Berit (Brenner) Perryman of Staples, Minnesota; Leah (John) Gilbert of Chaska, Minnesota; and Carmen (Nick) Tubbs of Fargo, North Dakota; and her grandson, Emmett Gilbert; siblings, RaeAnn (Allen) Arneson of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; Elmo (Julie) Volstad of Hanley Falls, Minnesota; Tim (Sabrina) Volstad of Anchorage, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.

She had a never-ending smile, a song her in heart, and always thought of others. She has touched the lives of many in such a positive manner. Kim was strong in her faith and trusted in the Lord. She will be greatly missed.
