Ruth Ida Klukas, 92, of Gibbon, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Glencoe Regional Health Care Center Nursing Home in Glencoe.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township with Pastor David Winterfeldt officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Ruth is survived by her grandchildren, Laura (Jim) Donnay of Glencoe and Loretta (Lynn) Ahlbrecht of Gibbon; great-grandchildren, James Carlson of Sibley, IA, Michael Donnay of Glencoe, Aaron Donnay of Glencoe, Anna Ahlbrecht and special friend James Theis of Gibbon; son-in-law, Darwin Buerkle of Gibbon; by many nieces and nephews; and especially her lunch buddy Wayne Klukas.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred in 1986; daughter, Lenora Buerkle 1995; siblings, Erwin Pagel, Walter Pagel, William Pagel, Melvin Pagel, Leonard Pagel, Elmer Pagel, Marvin Pagel, Esther Stresemann, Verna Klukas, Lillian Blum, Leona Rose, Alpha Geslin, Elaine Klukas, and their spouses.
Ruth Ida Pagel was born on February 13, 1921 to John and Bertha (Rettmann) Pagel in Bismarck Township, Sibley County. She attended the District 51 school in Bismarck Township. Ruth was united in marriage to Fred Klukas on April 9, 1939 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. They were blessed with one daughter, Lenora. Ruth worked with her husband on their farm in Bismarck Township and continued to live there for nearly 75 years. She milked cows, raised pigs and chickens, loved gardening and mowing the lawn. Outside of the farm, she worked at the Model Caf, and the Winthrop Bakery with her sisters, Esther and Elaine for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to auctions with Fred and quilting.
