BOY’S BASKETBALL: GFW continues winning ways

GFW 86, CM/C 72

WINTHROP – Gibbon-Fairfax-Wintrhop had five players in double figures Tuesday night as it defeated Cedar Mountain/Comfrey in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball game.

Seth Schutte scored 20 points for GFW. Lee Sullivan added 17 points, Jack Bussler scored 15 points and he had 10 rebounds. Ryan Klabunde scored 14 points and Brett VanMaasdam scored 12 points.

Chandler Rose scored 22 points for the Cougars. Brady Kerkhoff scored 20 points and Javin Larsen added 12 points.

GFW (8-6, 7-2 Tomahawk) will host Belle Plaine on Thursday. CM/C (7-8, 5-5) will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.

St. Mary’s 87, Springfield 66

SPRINGFIELD – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s downed Springfield 87-66 in a Tomahawk Conference boy’s basketball game on Tuesday night.

Tyler Vogel led Springfield with 19 points and Kale Meendering added 10 points.

Mike Hirsch scored 18 points to lead the Knights. John Brandl and Payton Adams each added 17 points. Jared Rothmeier scored 14 points.

Springfield (5-8, 4-3 Tomahawk) will play at New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday. Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (8-5, 5-4) will play at Mankato Loyola on Saturday.

BOLD 84, Sleepy Eye 50

SLEEPY EYE – BOLD crushed Sleepy Eye 84-50 in a nonconference boy’s basketball game on Tuesday night.

Brandon Polesky led all scorers with 25 points and he had 10 rebounds. Spencer Weicherding scored 10 points.

Nick Kubesh led BOLD with 15 points while Max Buchtel scored 13 points and Austin Weiss added 12 points.

Sleepy Eye (4-11, 2-6 Tomahawk) will play at Wabasso on Thursday.
