Delbert “Del” Pagel

NEW?ULM – Delbert “Del” Pagel, 87, of New Ulm, died Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, January 23, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor John Gabrielson officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Del is survived by his wife, Helen Pagel of New Ulm; daughters, Karen Angfang (Jim Brown) of Casper, Wyoming, Margaret (Roland) Harpestad of New Ulm, Carolyn Ann (Larry) Earl of New Ulm; a son, Dohn (Cheryl) Pagel of Brainerd; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Willa Fluegge of New Ulm, Bernice Goblirsch of Morgan and Margaret (William) Brei of New Ulm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Tyler Montoya; sister, Burnette (Herbert) Kapaun; son-in-law, Phil Angfang; and by his brothers-in-law, Elmer Fluegge, Vernie Domeier and John Goblirsch.

Delbert Henry Pagel was born October 1, 1926 in Stewart to August and Sarah (Smith) Pagel. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School in New Ulm. Del was united in marriage to Helen Andersen on October 14, 1944 at the St. Mary’s Parish house in New Ulm. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. They resided in New Ulm where he was employed at the Oak Grove Dairy and New Ulm Bus Lines. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking. Del was a member of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post 132 in New Ulm.
