Winter re-elected District 88 Board chair
NEW ULM – The District 88 Board of Education Thursday held its organizational meeting, electing officers, assigning board members to committees and designating official depositories, legal counsel, official newspaper, and other details of operations.
The board elected Duane Winter chair, Patricia Hoffman vice-chair, Steve Gag clerk and Don Deslauriers treasurer.
The board also set compensation at $1,200 annually for each board member, plus $35 per committee meeting and $70 for a full-day training session. It awarded each board member a single-season activities pass, to increase their visibility among the public. The board also adopted the IRS mileage rate.
In addition, the board supported a routine application to the Minnesota High School League Foundation, with the goal of seeking financial support for students who cannot afford activity fees. The grant in question is awarded to schools in proportion to the number of students enrolled who receive free and reduced-price lunches.
The board approved a contract with River Bend Education District, under which a District 88 staff member will deliver lunch to River Bend students and bring back lunch equipment. This contract is replacing an arrangement under which these duties have until now been performed by a River Bend paraprofessional. The new contract frees up the paraprofessional’s time, so the paraprofessional can serve in the classroom. District 88 has a staff member available to perform these duties. River Bend will pay $56.45 per day for the services provided by the new contract. Lunch preparation for River Bend, also done in District 88, is regulated by a different contract.
In addition to these decisions, the board heard various reports, including reports on sessions on various topics, which board members attended as part of recent state school board training.
