PUC meets Tuesday, considers transformer addition for South Side Substation
NEW ULM – The New Ulm Public Utilities Commisison will hold its organizational meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the City Council chambers at City Hall.
Newly appointed members William Swan and Linda Heine will be sworn in, and officers will be elected for 2014.
Members will be appointed to various committees, including the Energy Awareness Committee, the Personnel Committee, and the Long Term Power Committee. One commisisioner will also be appointed to serve on the city Cable Communications Advisory Board.
The commission will consider authorizing staff to prepare plans and specifications and advertise for bids for a transformer addition on the South Side Substation. The transformer at the substation, which serves Kraft, Hy-Vee, Schell’s, New Ulm Steel and Recycling and other large energy users, has been a concern in recent years. The load on the system has grown to the point that there are no adequate backup feeders if this transformer were to go out of service.
