Charter schools a great choice

To the editor:

The week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1 has been designated “School Choice Week” and Lafayette Charter School, Lafayette, is an excellent choice in public education. Lafayette Charter School (LCS) is among hundreds of other rural public charter schools in the United States offering parents and students a different educational choice since the first charter school was established in 1991 in Minnesota. (see – The Story of Rural Charter Schools.)

LCS, originally chartered in 1999, currently serves 104 students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Students receive free transportation from New Ulm, Klossner, Lafayette, Winthrop, Gibbon, Fairfax and surrounding areas. Academic achievement, agriculture, and technology are the focuses at LCS where students enjoy working in the greenhouse each spring, weekly lessons in agriculture, music, computer technology, art, and health and daily physical education. Lafayette Charter School is proud to be another choice for public education. (
