Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down

Clinic project opens

THUMBS UP: The New Ulm Medical Center celebrated the completion (almost)?of its clinic expansion project Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The exam rooms are open, the new pharmacy and eye clinic are up and running, and the new entryway is available.

The Medical Center is planning an open house in a few weeks, once the final remodeling touches have been completed, the construction trailers are gone and the weather (we hope)?warms up a bit.

It is a sign of Allina Health’s commitment to New Ulm that this project was completed with no capital campaign or local contributions. Thanks, Allina.

Good Samaritans

THUMBS UP: The blizzard last Sunday created a lot of havoc on local highways. We know a lot of people spun out, went off the road, or were stranded by the weather. And as usual, the emergency responders reacted heroically.?But a lot of other private citizens helped out too, taking in others for the night, digging people out of drifts and doing what they had to do to help others in need.

Congratulations to all.

Unnecessary travel

THUMBS DOWN: At the same time we thank the emergency responders and good Samaritans, we have to ask those who were driving around in the blizzard – What were you thinking?

There was plenty of notice that the weather was turning bad and driving would be dangerous. Next time, please heed the warnings.
