Madelia boys fall to Loyola

Mankato Loyola 72, Madelia 47
MANKATO – Mankato Loyola crushed Madelia in a Valley Conference boy’s basketball game Friday night.
Derrick Van Hee led Madelia with 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Jack Bergeman added nine points and eight rebounds.
Madelia will now play on Monday in the Valley Conference Showcase. Its seeding and the next opponent are yet to be determined.
Redwood Valley 78,
REDWOOD FALLS – Redwood Valley crushed Luverne in a Southwest Conference boy’s basketball game on Friday night.
Thane Widmer scored 15 points for Redwood Valley. Cade Johnson added 13 points. Taquez Perkins and Sam Pendleton each scored 10 points.
Redwood Valley (16-4, 8-2) will host Montevideo on Saturday.
MVL 73, Wabasso 70
WABASSO – Minnesota Valley Lutheran edged Wabasso in a Tomahawk Conference boy’s basketball game on Friday.
Jacob Hoffman led the Chargers with 22 points while Chad Lease added 20.
Neil Eichten of Wabasso scored 44 points and Tanner Bock added 15 points and 19 rebounds
MVL will host Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Tuesday. Wabasso will travel to Springfield on Tuesday.
CM/C 84, St. Mary’s 81
SLEEPY EYE – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Friday night in boys basketball 84-81.
Chandler Rose was the leading scorer for the Cougars with 32 points and he also had 19 rebounds. Riley Kerkhoff and Javin Larsen had 16 and 14 points respectively.
For the Knights, John Brandl had a team high 32 points. Payton Adams recorded 13 points and Jay Helget had 11 points.
CM/C (10-10, 7-7) travels to MVL on Tuesday.
St. Mary’s (12-7, 9-5) hosts New Ulm Cathedral Monday.
Krumbach sets school record
Sleepy Eye 56,
SLEEPY EYE – Claire Krumbach broke the all-time Sleepy Eye girl’s basketball points record Friday night in its win against New Ulm Cathedral in a Tomahawk Conference game.
Krumbach scored nine points in the game, added eight rebounds and had eight blocks. Sydney Remus held the previous record of 1,438 points that she set in 2012.
Justine Gonzalez led Sleepy Eye with 22 points. Josie Schieffert added 14 points with six rebounds and four blocked shots.
Kristin Mohr led New Ulm Cathedral with 20 points.
Sleepy Eye (12-9, 7-7) will host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday. New Ulm Cathedral (11-6, 7-6) will host Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity on Saturday.
Springfield 77, BLHS 45
HECTOR – Springfield defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 77-45 in girl’s basketball on Friday night.
Therese Roiger was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 22 points and had eight rebounds. Taylor Milbrath recorded 18 points and had six rebounds. Bridget Fenger had 10 points and Jenny Thoreson recorded seven assists.
The Mustangs were led by Hannah VanderVoort with 13 points and Michelle Melsha with 10 points.
Springfield (9-8, 8-5 Tomahawk) will play at Red Rock Central on Saturday.
BLHS (3-14, 3-10) hosts Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Monday.
BOLD 70, GFW 61
WINTHROP – BOLD defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a nonconference girl’s basketball game on Friday night.
Halley Busse led the Thunderbirds with 40 points and Lexi Kruggel added seven points.
GFW (6-13) will host Montevideo on Saturday.
