PREP SPORTS: Wabasso girl’s win streak extended to 19

Wabasso girls 81, Windom Area 46

WINDOM – The No. 10 Wabasso girl’s basketball team kept its perfection intact on Saturday after beating Windom Area 81-46 in a nonconference game.

Morgan Frank led the Rabbits (19-0, 14-0 Tomahawk) with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Becky Franta had 14 points, while Erin Liebl added 12 with seven assists.

Wabasso will host Springfield at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers nearly ended the streak at home on Jan. 10, but the Rabbits pulled away for a 67-65 win.

Red Rock Central girls 60, Springfield 54

LAMBERTON – Red Rock Central defeated Springfield 60-54 in a nonconference girl’s basketball game on Saturday.

The Falcons’ Rachel Kedl led all scorers with 23 points while nabbing 11 rebounds. Melanie Kedl contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Falcons (10-8, 6-6 Red Rock).

The Tigers (9-9, 8-5 Tomahawk) were led by Joeli Arnoldi, who had 12 points and eight assists. Sonja Fiedler, Taylor Milbrath and Therese Roiger each had 10 points. Roiger also led the team in rebounds with 11.

Red Rock Central will play Monday at Cedar Mountain/Comfrey, while Springfield will play Tuesday at Wabasso.

Nicollet girls 53, Alden-Conger 50

SHERBURN – The Nicollet girl’s basketball team ended its stand in the Valley Conference Showcase with a 53-50 victory against Alden-Conger on Saturday in Sherburn.

Previously in the tournament, Nicollet beat Martin Luther 69-48 on Feb. 3 and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 58-54 on Feb. 6.

Against the Knights, Emily Skrien led the Raiders (9-10, 5-6 Valley) with 26 points and four assists. Natasha Young-Kruse added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Nicollet will start a three-game stanza against Tomahawk Conference teams to end its regular season. Its first game will be against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 7:30 p.m. at home on Thursday.

Redwood Valley boys 62, Montevideo 52

REDWOOD FALLS – Redwood Valley defeated Montevideo 62-52 in a nonconference boy’s basketball game on Saturday night.

Sam Pendleton led the Cardinals (17-4, 8-2 Southwest) with 19 points. Taquez Perkins added 16 points, while Thane Widmer had 14.

Redwood Falls will return to the court at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Luverne.

BOY’S HOCKEY

New Ulm 5, Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 1

LITCHFIELD – The New Ulm boy’s hockey team defeated Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 5-1 in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Brandon Helget scored two goals for the Eagles (14-10, 4-1 South Central), while Ethan Kraus, Wyatt Peterson and Judd Davis each scored one.

Brach Kraus got the victory in the net, stopping 26-of-27 shots.

New Ulm will host Fairmont in its regular-season finale on Thursday.
