PREP GIRL’S BASKETBALL: Pfaff’s free throws spring Cathedral to win

New Ulm Cathedral 45, Springfield 44

SPRINGFIELD – New Ulm Cathedral defeated Springfield 45-44 in Tomahawk Conference girl’s basketball Thursday night.

Karlee Pfaff hit two free throws with 11 seconds remaining in the game to take the lead and the eventual victory.

Leah Krzmarzick led the Greyhounds with 12 points, Kristin Mohr had 10 points and Lindsay Simon recorded seven rebounds.

Joeli Arnoldi was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 14 points and six assists. Sonja Fiedler recorded 10 points and Therese Roiger had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

New Ulm Cathedral (13-7, 9-6 Tomahawk) hosts MVL on Friday night. Springfield (10-10, 9-6) hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton next Tuesday.

Nicollet 74, BLHS 72 (OT)

NICOLLET – Nicollet defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 74-72 in overtime in a nonconference girl’s basketball game.

Natasha Young-Kruse hit the game-winning shot with 1.2 seconds to go in overtime.

Emily Skrien recorded a team-high 24 points for the Raiders. Alyssa Wagner had 18 points and three assists, while Young-Kruse had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Michelle Melsha led the Mustangs with 25 points, Hannah VanderVoort recorded 11 points for the Mustangs, Emily Markgraf had 11 points.

BLHS (5-16, 3-10 Tomahawk) hosts Sleepy Eye Public on Friday night. Nicollet (10-10, 8-6 Valley) travels to New Ulm Cathedral next Tuesday.

St. Mary’s 60, GFW 53

FAIRFAX – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Conference girl’s baskeball game on Thursday night.

Nikki Carr led the Knights with 16 points and Becca Schmitz added 10.

McKenzie Elder led GFW with 16 points. Lexi Kruggel scored 11 points.

GFW (6-15) will play Redwood Valley on Monday night in Winthrop. Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s will play Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday night at Hector.
