Wabasso upsets No. 1 ranked Minneota

WABASSO – Erin Liebl dropped a 3-point shot with 17 seconds left to help Wabasso shock top-ranked Minneota in a nonconference girl’s basketball game on Monday night.

Chelsey Guetter scored 14 points, added nine rebounds and she had two blocks for the Rabbits. Larissa Rohlik added 13 points. Liebl had seven points and four assists.

Wabasso (19-2, 13-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran Feb. 24 in the it’s regular-season finale.

Redwood Valley boys 78,

GFW 62

REDWOOD FALLS -Redwood Valley placed four players in double figures Monday night in its win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a nonconference boy’s basketball game. It was the regular season finale for Redwood Valley.

Taquez Perkins scored 20 points. Thane Widmer had 16 points, Sam Pendleton added 14 points and Cade Johnson scored 12 points.

Seth Schutte led the Thunderbirds with 19 points while Jack Bussler and Cody Huiras each added 12 points.

Redwood Valley (20-5, 9-3) will play on Saturday in the first round of the Section 3AA tournament against either Lac qui Parle Valley or Yellow Medicine East.

Springfield girls 59,

SPRINGFIELD – Springfield defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Monday night in a nonconference girls basketball game.

Therese Roiger scored 15 points and she had 10 rebounds for Springfield. Joeli Arnoldi added 14 points, five assists and five rebounds.

Springfield (11-10, 9-6) will at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Windom.

Fulda boys 65, RRC 49

LAMBERTON – Fulda defeated Red Rock Central on Monday night in the regular-season finale for both teams in boy’s basketball.

Thomas Blomgren scored 25 points for RRC. Sam Halter added eight points and eight rebounds. Austin Price scored six points and he had 10 rebounds.

RRC (1-22, 1-15) will host Edgerton on Thursday in the first round of the Section 3A, South tournament.

GFW girls 56,

Redwood Valley 45

WINTHROP – Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop downed Redwood Valley on Monday night in a nonconference girl’s basketball game.

Halley Busse led the Thunderbirds with 32 points.

MaKenzie Mace was the top scorer for the Cardinals with 15 points. Lauren Hanson added 13 points.

St. James Area boys 85,

CM/C 73

ST. JAMES – St. James Area defeated Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Monday night in a nonconference boy’s basketball game.

Zach Brandts led the Saints with 30 points. Walker Froehling scored 22 points, had 12 assists and 11 rebounds. Jordan Sandmeyer scored 10 points and he added 10 rebounds.

Chandler Rose led CM/C with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Brady Kerkhoff added 19 points and Javin Larsen scored 12 points.

St. James Area (18-5, 6-4) will play at Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday.

St. James 50

ST. JAMES – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated St. James in nonconference girl’s basketball action on Monday.

Andrea Ochs had 16 points and five rebounds for the Cougars and Courtney Nelsen scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Brianna Lund finished with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

CM/C (13-8, 8-8 Tomahawk) is at Lakeview on Thursday.
