Two NU men face assault charges
MANKATO – Two New Ulm men, William W. Braulick and Jeremy S. Rose, were charged with 3rd felony assault and two 5th degree misdemeanor assault charges Monday in Blue Earth County Court for allegedly knocking out a man near a downtown mall early Sunday morning.
According to the complaint, Mankato Police were dispatched to the mall at 1:28 a.m. Sunday near Blue Bricks after receiving a repo a man lying on a sidewalk who appeared to be knocked out. At the scene, police found a man lying on the ground and a female next to him who said she didn’t know him but found him unconscious, lying on the sidewalk, coughing and gurgling so she turned him on his side to prevent him from choking.
An officer identified the man, who said he knew the suspects before Gold Cross Ambulance and fire department personnel came to the victim’s aid and took him to the hospital. An Underground employee told the officer he saw another man with a bloody face in the mall area, according to the complaint.
Another officer who responded to the scene saw a suspect vehicle leaving the area. The vehicle abruptly stopped and a man wearing a t-shirt jumped out of the rear seat and fled on foot. The officer soon caught the suspect and identified him as Braulick, who said he ran because he was on probation for drug sales. A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) showed a reported value of 0.19, according to the complaint.
Another assisting officer said a person later identified as Rose was sitting in the rear seat of the suspect vehicle, was very intoxicated and became agitated when the officer asked him to exit the vehicle, according to the complaint.
The officer was later approached by a man who said he had called to report the assault. The man said he saw Rose hit the victim, then watched as several people were pushing, arguing and shoving each other on Blue Bricks property. The man said he saw Rose “sucker” punch the victim, who fell to the ground and appeared to lose consciousness, according to the complaint.
Police took Rose to Blue Bricks for a show-up with an employee who said he didn’t see Rose push the victim but said Rose was fighting with bouncers and was kicked out of Blue Bricks for fighting, and that Braulick was the person who struck the victim, according to the complaint.
Police took Braulick to Blue Bricks for identification where an employee said Braulick assaulted the victim inside the bar by strangling him before staff held him back. He added that Rose was involved with the disturbance.
Braulick, 23, 1106 N. State and Jeremy S. Rose, 24, 916 N. Valley were bailed out of jail Monday. They face Rule 8 hearings at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 6.
