Tomahawk Conference announces All-boys team
SLEEPY EYE – Brandon Polesky of Sleepy Eye was named the 2013-14 Tomahawk Conference Player of the Year, according to a news release.
Polesky, Wabasso’s Neil Eichten and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart’s Kyle Kubesh were the three repeat selections as All-Conference honorees from previous years. All three were unanimous selections this season, although Polesky is the only three-time selection of this list.
Polesky averaged 26.9 points per game and led the conference in 3-point percentage with 42.6 (43-of-101). He was also third in rebounds per game with 12.2 as well as assists per game with 4.6.
Eichten set the conference record for points per game with 31.4, breaking the previous mark of 30.4 that was set by Mike Ward of Morgan in 1961-62. He also set the conference record for scoring with 502 points in 16 conference games, breaking the previous mark of 478 in 18 conference games by Nathan Guetter (Wabasso) in 1994-95.
Kubesh averaged 21.1 points per game (fifth-best in conference) while shooting 55.6 percent from the field (fourth-best). He led the conference in blocks per game with 5.2 and was also second in the conference in rebounds with 16.3 per game.
Other unanimous selections for this year’s All-Conference team include junior Jack Bussler and sophomore Seth Schuette of Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, senior John Brandl of Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, senior Chad Lease of Minnesota Valley Lutheran, junior Tyler Vogel of Springfield and senior Tanner Bock of Wabasso.
Bock set the conference record for rebounds per game with 20.3, breaking the old record of 18.6 set by Fairfax’s Roger Rogotzke in 1975-76.
The remaining All-Conference selections are senior Cooper Scheffler of Springfield and senior Tate Lange of BLHS.
