Casey’s to build new store in Sleepy Eye
SLEEPY EYE – The City of Sleepy Eye announced Tuesday the first commercial/retail partner in the Snow First Addition property on the east edge of town.
Casey’s General Stores, Inc., which is based in Iowa, recently signed a purchase agreement for Lot 1, Block 1, Snow First Addition to the City of Sleepy Eye, according to a press release from City Manager Mark Kober.
“Casey’s General Stores, already a partner in Sleepy Eye, has decided to construct a new generation of convenience store on the property,” the release read. “The new store is said to be expanded and more truck-friendly than the older generation of Casey’s General Stores.”
Construction of the new facility could begin this year, depending on the timing of hard surface (streets) and curb and gutter construction of 12th Avenue and Walnut Street S.E., adjacent to the location, the release said.
As of October 2013, Casey’s had 1,700 stores including 111 in Minnesota. In the last fiscal year, Casey’s opened 26 acquired stores and completed 31 new store constructions.
Casey’s set a goal to build or to acquire 70 to 105 stores and replace 20 existing locations during fiscal year 2014, which ends April 30.
Casey’s stores carry a range of food, including freshly-prepared pizza, donuts and sandwiches, beverages, tobacco products, health and beauty aids, automotive products, and other non-food items including gasoline on a self-service basis.
