Verna Rein

WINTHROP – Verna (Mrs. Richard) Rein, age 87, of Winthrop passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop with Reverend David Winterfeldt officiating. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, March 14, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. There will be a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the service at the church on Saturday.

Verna May (Madsen) Rein was born on May 23, 1926, in Brookville Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Chris and Anna (Johansen) Madsen. Verna was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education in Morgan and was a 1944 graduate of the Morgan High School. She worked various jobs in New Ulm prior to her marriage including New Ulm Laundry.

On June 6, 1953, Verna was united in marriage to Richard Rein in New Ulm, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple farmed in Cornish Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. She was a loving homemaker and mother. Verna and Richard shared 56 years of marriage before Richard passed away on March 2, 2010. They were blessed with four children.

Verna was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

Verna enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, flowers, and visiting with relatives and friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Blessed be her memory.

Verna is survived by her children, Douglas Rein of Edina, MN, Michael Rein of Winthrop, MN, Joan Clobes and her husband, Allan of Lafayette, MN, and Nancy Harder and her husband, Michael of Le Sueur, MN; grandchildren, Rachel Harder and Lisa Harder; sister-in-law, Vangie Madsen of Morgan, MN; brothers-in-law, Robert Boesch of New Ulm, MN, Willard Rein of Lakeville, MN, William Rein and his wife, Mary of Crystal, MN, and James Rein and his wife, Carol of Hastings, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Anna Madsen; husband, Richard Rein; sister, Bernice Nelson and her husband, Henry; twin sister, Vera Boesch; brothers, Marvin Madsen and his wife, Lydia, and Linus Madsen.
